Zac Coffey is nineteen years old and learns something new every day. Zac is a lover of life, an award winning and published playwright, an award-winning actor, and very grateful of his time spent working with Starlight Theatre!

His senior year, his play ‘The Meaning of Enchantment: A Ghost Fable’ was chosen as a winner of the International Thespian Festivals’ Playworks Program and received publication in Dramatics Magazine, as well as a week long workshop process and staged reading in Lincoln, Nebraska at the International Thespian Festival where he got to work with the amazing director Holly Stanfield and (SUPER COOL) dramaturge Stephen Gregg!!

After graduating from Boulder Creek in 2009 he went on to attend a postgraduate year at Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan to study theatre 7+ hours a day. “This brief but eventful year long program has been a wonderful growth experience both as an artist and a person”

In his time at Interlochen, Zac was in 3 of the 4 Mainstage shows: ‘Hotel Paradiso’ (Anniello), ‘Loves Labour’s Lost’ (Don Armado) and ‘A Christmas Carol’ (Ghost of Marley), where he was lucky enough to perform for, meet, and talk with the legendary Alan Menken!! Zac was also chosen to represent the theatre department in Interlochens’ prestigious annual ‘Collage Concert’ where performed the song ‘I Am Aldolpho!’ from ‘The Drowsy Chaperone’. To top off this amazing year, his play ‘The Meaning of Enchantment’ was selected as a part of the Student Directed One Act Festival and will receive a full production. Though this program and chapter of his life are coming to an end, he has big plans for next year!

Recently, Zac was one of the few to be accepted to The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow, Scotland. Zac very much looks forward to training in this intensive conservatory setting and furthering an education in the theatre and continuing to grow and hone his art; plus… EUROPE?! COOL!

Even though you might not believe it, Zac does miss Arizona, and looks back fondly on his time here where he was in every BCHS show during his four years as well as numerous Starlight Productions.

“These shows are really some of my best memories, it was great working with friends and people so very talented and getting to perform at Thespian Conference as well as just learning so much from all those shows! … Great times!” Whether it be ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ ('Chaim!), ‘Once on This Island’ (SO fun), ‘The Sound of Music’ (Think WAY back), or ‘The Scottish Play’ (… Anyone?), “Starlight was a great place to grow up, and be with friends, and figure out that theatre is what I love to do, and what I will do for the rest of my life.” But, perhaps, his all time favorite Starlight show was ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’ not only because he got to be with his best friends but because it was just so fun to do! And working with Barb and Christine is always a pleasure!

Plus:

“Playing a mean ruler and a wickedly envious brother who sings in French was just a gift to perform!” “Starlight Community Theatre remains a fond memory for me! I look forward to keeping theatre as a vital part of my every day life, and I am so incredibly thankful for that. I cannot wait to break out into the world and grow and live and learn and continue to perform and experience and expand my horizons!!! Here I come WORLD!!!!!!

Go Go Go Joseph” After graduating High School in 2009, Joe has been on the go non stop. He attended a semester at Nebraska Wesleyan University and studied musical theatre, costume design, and appeared in the show, “Applause Applause.” 3 moves later, he finally settled in his hometown of NYC! Joe, no stranger to the hustle and bustle, decided to peruse his dreams a bit further and move to the Big Apple.

Joe and his family moved to Arizona when he was in 6th grade. He has been with Starlight since the very beginning having appeared in such shows as “Into the woods”, “The Sound Of Music”, “High School Musical”, “The Music Man,” “Fiddler On The Roof”, “Kiss Me Kate,” “The Taffetas” and “Annie”. He received a Zoni nod for his Starlight performance “Joseph” in “Joseph ATATD.” He has also volunteered with Starlight Children’s camp working on “Holiday Window” and “Everything’s Groovy”.

Having appeared in and worked on over 30 productions, and like every actor trying to make it, Joe has been on his fare share of auditions. So, Joe decided to put acting and singing on the back burner for a while and pursue his love of costume and fashion design. He recently interview for a position with Lady Gaga’s costume team. He didn’t get that gig but that meeting led to a job working with two of the designers from Project Runway Season 5. Joe worked closely with the two designers as a design intern. The collection was presented at NY Fashion Week and received great reviews.

Now, Joe is starting his own Clothing brand and he hopes to show at NY Fashion Week next winter. Be on the lookout for JCM American Couture By: Joseph Charles Mazzola. He hasn’t given up his dream of being on the stage yet. Joe still loves to act and sing and knows it will be a hobby he does for the rest of his life.
